Review by Therese Nelson

Buck Up, the latest album by Carsie Blanton, is a delightful mix of modern pop and retro jazz. The album features 11 tracks that showcase Blanton's vocal range and songwriting skills.

From the opening track, "Jacket," to the closing number, "Harbor," Buck Up takes listeners on a journey through various musical genres. "Jacket" is a catchy, upbeat pop song that sets the tone for the rest of the album, while "American Kid" is a poignant ballad that showcases Blanton's emotive vocals.

One of the standout tracks on the album is "Twister," a sultry jazz number that features Blanton's smooth vocals and a seductive saxophone solo. "Bed" is another standout track, with its catchy chorus and infectious beat.

Throughout Buck Up, Blanton's lyrics are both clever and relatable. She tackles topics such as love, heartbreak, and self-empowerment with wit and honesty.

"We tried to beat the devil but we couldn't resist" says Blanton casually. She is far from believing anymore--she rather twists and turns her band and her voice is queen. Everyone of her "400 producers?" plays for her even when she wants to make "one last mistake". Unabashedly horny, free and political she doesn't have many pretensions. That boy is good enough if he looks good (and doesn't have a mustache); forget about everything else. I bet in every song the "boy" is never the same one and good for her. She is still a teenager: "So I'm not gonna get out of bed today / I've tried to do it, but what can I say" but the reason why that doesn't bother me is because she realizes you don't always need to act your age. She does when it matters like in the poetic "Harbor" which is about war and love at the same time, sometimes even in the same sentence. She knows when to let go and crack the whip. From folk to this be-bop extravaganza she made a long way but she doesn't bother showing off--too cool for that.
